Short's 5th Anniversary Party

So this past weekend we made the trip to beautiful Bellaire, MI to participate in Short's 5th Anniversary Party. For those of you that know little to none about Short's Brewery it is a small brewery north of Traverse City that has grown each of its five years in existence to the point that 3 of there bottles are now distributed all over the state of Michigan. It is also one of the fastest up in coming breweries in the country. Known not only for putting out fantastically unique and delicious beers, but also for being one of the friendliest place we've ever had a beer. It really is amazing when you can walk into a place that you only visit once every six months or so and not only a bartender or waitstaff remember you, but also the owners and management team. This is what Short's is. I've always thought that having a beer in this tiny establishment is like sitting down and having a beer with friends.

Every brewer needs to have people that inspire them to come up with ideas for making the beer that they do. For me (Matt) my inspiration comes from several different origins in no particular order of importance. First, from my friends that come over drink, enjoy and critique the beers that I brew. I appreciate every bit of positive and negative feedback that I get and its what helps my beer grown and evolve. Secondly, my wife, who inspired me to get into making beer by buying my first homebrewing kit along with the countless upgrades to my system throughout the few years I've been brewing. In addition, she's a beer wife which is not the easiest thing to be when you have to put up with a person that constantly talks about beer making it, drinking it, different ideas for things I want to do with it....not to mention the countless trip we venture on together for some beer that is probably overpriced...but delicious. Finally, everyone has to look up to someone who has the same kind of attitude about brewing. For me Joe Short is one of those people. He is a brewer that still makes beer for all the same reasons that he started making beer, never sacrificing quality for quantity. I have, do and will always appreciate Short's willingness to push the limits of what a beer can and should be.

We uploaded a video that Irene took during a tour that Joe gave to us and some friends. If you ever get the chance to visit Bellaire and Short's Brewery, take the opportunity, its well worth the trip. Cheers to Short's Brewery and there continued success.

I AM A CRAFT BREWER!

I just had a friend email this video to me. I think it is a powerful piece of 4 minute film that does an amazing job up summarizing the beliefs of the craft beer industry and I was glad to see so many brewers used in it. This video is what "Beer Wars" should have been. I was especially glad to see Ron Jefferies from Jolly Pumpkin in Dexter in it. Cheers to everyone for drinking a craft beer!!

St. Patty's Wrap Up

This past weekend was our soon to be annual St. Patrick's Day Shin Dig and I must say I think a good time was had by all of those that attended. Beer began flowing at 11 am and didn't stop until close to 11pm in the evening.....and good news, we didn't finish any of the 5 beers on tap. The overall impression of the beers seemed to be solid with the first release of our Russian Imperial Stout (Kremlin Joe's) seeming to get the highest praise for flavor and Peppermint Patty's Mint Stout receiving a lot of praise for the amazing mint aroma that it gave off. Furthermore, it seemed that all beers fit there niche for the day. The Irish Dry Stout seemed to be the perfect canvas for countless Irish Car Bombs, while Wholly Oat and Junak's Brown Beaver Ale seemed to supply a quenchable drink for those looking for something lighter to drink. The highlight of the day (for me at least) was the game of ultimate boooooze pong that took place in the mid afternoon. A brain child of my own spurred on by a mix of Celtic Music, Green Eggs and Dark Beer, this 110 cups (55 per side) abomination provided a lot of laughs and a lot of light heads by the time we were done. All and all a successful first transformation of the BrewHaus into an Irish themed booze hole.
I also wanted to say a special thanks to all of you that contributed to the "Beer Karma". I want to make sure that everyone knows its not a tip jar, but as many of you are probably in the same boat as we are and times are tough and making beer isn't free, so thank you for the support. We also would like to thank those of you that have attended both the New Years Eve Party and now the St. Patty's Day Party, thank you for coming back and making these events special for us. The next big party will be the third of three that we are planning on a yearly basis.....it will be Oktoberfest! This get together will take place on the third Saturday in September every year. Any suggestion anyone has to add to the appeal of this party will be greatly appreciated. Even though Oktoberfest will be the next large party we will have several other events taking place throughout the summer, both at the BrewHaus and on the road. Finally, we would like to thank the select few that made it to the BrewHaus for the first time, we really, really hope that you'll come back again and again because you added to the fun of the day. CHEERS!!!

Here's some pics from the Day!

Ultimate Booooze Pong!!

Bashore BrewHaus Poster Child....well for a while at least ;)

The Theme for this St. Patrick's Day Party should have been Car Bombs and Good Friends!
